n8n is a workflow-automation tool, similar in idea to Zapier or Make, but you can run it on your own server. You connect apps on a visual canvas and add code or AI steps when you need them.
It doesn’t send WhatsApp messages on its own (you pair it with another method) but it’s the piece that ties everything together: moving information between a chatbot, your records, and the rest of your tools.

How to get started
A simple automation might be:
- Use n8n’s hosted Cloud, or self-host it (a technical person can install it on a small server).
- Create a workflow and choose a trigger: a schedule, a form, or an incoming message.
- Add steps that do something with that data: save it, notify someone, or call another tool.
- Add an AI step if you want it to summarise or categorise.
- Turn the workflow on and let it run.

Examples
When a chatbot captures a lead, n8n adds it to the CRM and notifies the sales channel.
Volunteer sign-ups from a web form are sorted by location and emailed to the right local coordinator automatically.
A team self-hosts n8n so supporter data stays on their own server rather than in a third-party tool.

Good to know
It’s the most technical option here and doesn’t message WhatsApp by itself. Pair it with a compliant sending method, and avoid using it to bulk-message from a personal number. That’s how accounts get blocked.
