Wati
A shared team inbox and opt-in broadcasts on the official WhatsApp Business API
WhatsApp channel needs the official Business APIWhat it is
Wati is a provider of the official WhatsApp Business API. It gives an organisation a verified WhatsApp number, a shared inbox so several people can reply from it, and tools to send approved messages to a list of contacts who have opted in.
Because it’s the official platform, reaching a larger list is handled the way WhatsApp intends (with consent and approved message templates) which keeps the number in good standing.
What you can do with it
- Message a list of opted-in contacts using approved templates
- Share one WhatsApp number across a whole team
- Build chatbots and automatic replies
- Send reminders and updates (orders, appointments, confirmations)
- Connect to a CRM, spreadsheet or online store
How to get started
Setting up the official API takes more steps than a simple bot, roughly:
- Apply through Wati and verify your organisation and a phone number that isn’t already on WhatsApp.
- Wait for approval: this is where some organisations find they don’t qualify (see the eligibility note).
- Import the contacts who have agreed to hear from you.
- Write message templates and submit them for approval.
- Send your first message and handle the replies from the shared inbox.
Examples
A clinic sends appointment reminders and answers rescheduling messages from one shared number.
A registered nonprofit sends programme updates to members who signed up, with volunteers replying from the same inbox.
A trade association runs opt-in announcements instead of juggling dozens of manual broadcast lists.

- Shared inbox for teams
- Opt-in messaging with approved templates
- Integrates with common business tools
Good to know
The official API has eligibility rules. Meta restricts some uses (political and election-related messaging in particular is often not allowed) and providers may decline those applications. Check whether you qualify before committing.
